We are Nashville

As most of you know, Nashville and surrounding areas were hit by a 500 year flood this past weekend. The waters still haven't subsided downtown and in some areas. The pictures and coverage are devastating. Homes destroyed, lives lost (we really don't know how many people have been lost until the water is gone), pets lost, and our economic livelihood is still under feet of water. The president has declared it a disaster area and help will be on its way, but with all of the other things going on in the news I don't think it is getting enough attention on the national news and people who aren't Tennesseans just don't know how bad it really is. I read this article on a Predators fan site and thought it was incredible! I have posted the link below and it is a short article so please don't let that deter you from reading it. I also want to let everyone know that we are Ok and our house wasn't damaged by the flood. We were actually in E TN all weekend with family but were staying informed through family and neighbors about what was going on. I was so glad to be away but also it was a little scary thinking about what was happening at home and what we would be coming home to. We drove through the last few storms that came through on Sunday and it was amazing to see dry land in Cookeville and then by the time we got to Carthage the flood gates opened! We saw some rapids going under a bridge on the interstate that reminded me of rafting down the Ocoee. It was just incredible. We got off the exit and there were several roads closed that were covered in water. Water was up to the edge of the road we were traveling and you could see where it had been covering it the day before. We drove over branches and debris. When we got to our subdivision it was clear that we were OK. Our church was flooded and they are still trying to clean up and access the damage. I am so happy to say that all of our friends and family had no damage, but I am hearing story after story of people that know someone who has either lost everything or are still under water. My boss had flooding in his basement, his pool is ruined, and it swept away landscaping at his house. There is a family at church whose neighbor lost their 21 year old son who was swept away in the water trying to get to his wife and children. Heartbreaking! My prayers go out to everyone who is being directly affected by this tragedy.
